Change does not happen overnight. Some of the negative patterns you may be engaging in have been happening for years which will take time to unlearn. It is important to have compassion for yourself in therapy. I can help you navigate this process of moving from where you are right now to where you want to be. It is important to provide you with a safe and containing environment in therapy to help you feel comfortable sharing difficult feelings and emotions. We will look at the negative patterns you have been repeating and create new ones to help you feel better and to improve your relationships with others. In addition, identifying your strengths and what you already know (but may not be aware of) will improve how you cope with life in the future.

It can be difficult to recognize or identify with perinatal depression or anxiety. How do you know what is normal "mom" stuff and what is a symptom of depression? Some moms blame themselves for not being able to handle motherhood and feel ashamed or embarrassed. Postpartum depression is a medical condition and not a sign of failure. Some things you may be experiencing include:
Whether you are experiencing the baby blues or possible postpartum depression, it is best to connect with your OBGYN or general practioner and to get support from a therapist. Some combination of individual therapy, participation in a support group for new parents and possible medication management will be helpful in getting you to feel better. PPD is temporary and treatable with professional help.
